My Friday Five for September 20, 2002

  1. Would you say that you're good at keeping in touch with people?
    Nope.

  2. Which communication method do you usually prefer/use: e-mail, telephone, snail mail, blog comments, or meeting in person? Why?
Email. It's quick. It's convenient. And you don't have to worry about whether the person is available or not. Telephones mean dodging answering machines (and cellphones are worse - I really don't want to interrupt someone while they're driving or doing something interesting, but I have no way of knowing until after I interrupt; very few people have the sense to turn off their cellphones at such times). Snailmail takes forever. Blog comments? Give me a break... In person is best when it can be arranged, but can be a pain to set up.

  3. Do you have an instant messenger program? How many? Why/why not? How often do you use it?
Have the Yahoo client. Run it frequently, but only to notify me of incoming email on my yahoo account. Rarely chat on it.

  4. Do most of your close friends live nearby or far away?
Nearby for now, but I'll be going far away before long.

  5. Are you an "out of sight, out of mind" person, or do you believe that "distance makes the heart grow fonder"?
Generally 'out of sight, out of mind'.
