I haven't developed alchemy to any significant degree as yet, but it will feature the ability to mix reagents to obtain results beyond what standard chemistry can produce. No true spellcasting abilities will be present, but there will be synergy with wizardly lab work, so I do not expect alchemist/wizards to be rare. (Alchemists are particularly common within the Gold college.)
